THE RABBI’S CORNER April 9-10, 2021 / 28 Nisan 5781 / Shabbat Shemini Torah: Leviticus 9:1 - 11:47 / Haftarah: II Samuel 6:1 - 7:17 Omer Day 13 “Transformation” Dear Friends, How do we grow and transform our lives? In this week’s Torah portion, Aharon, Moses’ brother, and his four sons, are elevated to the roles of priests of Israel. The portion describes an elaborate ceremony that involves special vestments and rituals through which the lives of these five men are transformed. One moment they are commoners. The next, they are priests. Similarly, we experience this moment at graduation ceremonies, life cycle events, and even when we take on a new job. With each promotion come new challenges and opportunities to grow and transform ourselves. Just as important as those who confer a new title on us, we must be ready to receive and accept the new identity and responsibility that goes with it. We must be actively involved in the process of transformation. The Torah teaches us that when leadership is offered, we must be ready to step up to guide the way forward.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow
