“Searchers”
Dear Friends,
What does it mean to serve
God? The Book of Leviticus, which begins
this week, focuses on this very question.
It answers this question in a number of ways. Parts of the book talk about offering
sacrifices. Other parts speak about
acting with holiness and righteousness.
Still other sections teach us to eat certain foods and not others.
We often are uncomfortable
talking about God. Some of us are unsure
of what we believe. Others are concerned
that a conversation about God will offend others. The truth is that we are all on a journey of
experience and discovery. That is the
nature of life – growing and learning.
As we grow and learn, our understanding of what God or godliness means
in our lives changes and develops. So,
by talking about God and even by asking lots of questions, we share our lives
with others and they share theirs with us.
We learn. We are inspired. We search.
So, what does it mean to serve
God? What does it mean to encounter the unknowable source of life, the creative
power of the universe? What does it mean
to express our awareness and our gratitude?
What does it mean to see God in others and in ourselves. What does it mean to live our lives with
holiness and righteousness? As we start
the Book of Leviticus, I urge you all to think about it and talk about it. Offer your truths. Hear others’ truths. Offer you questions and hear others’. We are all searchers.
Shabbat shalom,
Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow

little birthday recognition other than this?

go without. Shir Hadash looks forward to
