CREATIVE WORSHIP AND RITUAL
- Purim Family Shabbat, Friday, March 4, 5:30pm -- Join us for some Purim fun this Friday! We’ll enjoy hotdogs and tater tots at 5:30pm, a family-friendly service at 6:00, followed by an oneg and special Purim arts and crafts. We will be making Hamen hats (boo!), and Esther crowns. Remember to bring a box (or more) of mac & cheese -- shake them as groggers, then drop them in the collection bin for the food pantry!
- Shabbat Evening Service, Friday, March 4, 7:30pm -- "Jewish Magic and Superstition": Do you do "puh puh puh"
sometimes without even thinking about it? Do you know someone who wears a red thread on their wrist? Did your grandma say "kinehorrah" a
lot? It's all part of our magical
tradition, and members of our Sunday morning Adult Ed class will lead the
discussion of this fun topic! We’ll also welcome our Kitah Dalet (Grade 4)
Sunday School class as they help Rabbi Eitan lead the service.
- Shabbat Morning Service and Bat Mitzvah, Saturday, March 5, 9:30am -- We will welcome Rachel LaMorte to the bima as Bat Mitzvah. All are welcome to participate in the service.

“Doing our Part”
Dear Friends,
There’s no doubt that Moses was a man of many talents. He was a shepherd, a prince of Egypt, a
legislator, a judge, and a leader of the Children of Israel. So how must Moses have felt when God chose
his brother Aaron for the job as High Priest and leader of the Israelite
worship before God? And how must Moses
have felt when God chose Betzal’el and Oholiav to be the chief craftsmen for
the building of Tent of Meeting, the place where God’s presence could be
encountered? Was Moses passed over for
the honor of fulfilling such magnificent and noble tasks? Was he dismissed and rejected?
The Torah has a powerful lesson for us in this simple
story. Many times in life, we feel ready
and excited to rise into a meaningful and visible role – at home, at school, at
work, and even in our community – only to find that another has been selected
for the task instead of us. The feeling
of disappointment and rejection can hurt.
Yet, just because another fulfills the task does not mean that we are
insignificant and unimportant. Building
a community is about teamwork. Creating
a society is about everyone fulfilling unique roles – the sum of which is
greater than the parts. Producing the Jewish People is about cooperation and
participation using our best skills. For
Moses, the elevation of Aaron to High Priest and Betzal’el & Oholiav to
chief craftsmen signaled that he had other more important duties to complete –
responsibilities to which he was better suited.
As we go through life, let us learn and grow as much as we
possibly can, so that when a role to which we are uniquely qualified comes
around, we are ready to jump in and do our very best. Likewise, let us celebrate as others find
their unique opportunities to excel in their special skill areas. In life, our task is to come together, each
of us doing our part to make a difference in the world and make the world a
better place for all..
Shabbat shalom,
Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow
