SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Shir Hadash Adopts Voluntary Commitment Dues Model -- We hope everyone has received and opened their mail from Shir Hadash this past weekend. We sent the information regarding the Annual Meeting along with some very exciting news! Shir Hadash is letting go of our outdated traditional dues structure and moving to a more modern and engaging approach which we are calling the Voluntary Commitment Model. This new model encourages you to determine how much to give based upon your level of commitment, Shir Hadash's needs and what you can afford. Our goal is to recognize each person's personal journey, while embracing a congregation-wide commitment to meeting our congregation's fiscal needs.

Representatives from the Membership Committee will be at the synagogue and available to talk with you on Sunday morning, April 28, and during the Open House on Sunday, May 5. There will also be time for questions at the Annual Meeting on May 19.

If you would like to volunteer to work with the Membership Committee, please contact us at committee.membership@shir-hadash.org.

THE RABBI’S CORNER

April 26-27, 2019 / 22 Nisan 5779
Shabbat Pesach Day 8 / Omer: Day 7

“A Great Torch”

Dear Friends,

Rabbi Abraham Isaac HaCohen Kook offered this teaching:
“Everyone must know that within them burns a candle and no one’s candle is identical with the candle of another.  It is our obligation to work hard to reveal the light of our candle, and make of it a great torch to enlighten the whole world."

As we light our Shabbat candles this Friday evening, may Passover’s message inspire us. May we rededicate ourselves to the task of bringing justice and freedom to all who dwell on earth.  May we renew the bond to our people, our history, our tradition, our heritage, and our Land.   May we devote ourselves to acts of lovingkindness.  May the candle within each one of us become “a great torch to enlighten the whole world.”

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow
