“Completion”

Dear Friends,

With every project, there comes a time when you can see the completion nearing.  There is a moment when things fall into place, and you realize that you are almost done.  In this week’s Torah portion, Moses came to that moment.  His brother Aaron and sister Miriam were gone. God told him that it was his turn.  His life was near an end.  Moses asked to ascend a mountain to see the Promised Land, even though he would not enter. Looking out on the Land of Israel, I can imagine Moses sensing that the great enterprise of guiding the Children of Israel to the Promised land was coming to an end.   He understood that his life’s work was meaningful, valuable, lasting, and complete. That was a holy moment.

As we go about our daily work, and from time to time notice the completion of projects approaching, take some time to reflect.  Say a shehecheyanu prayer and give thanks for the opportunity to do good work and complete a project.

Zay a mentsch – be a good person.
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow

Also contact Karen for a paper form if you prefer that to signing up online.

High Holidays are very early this year.  Erev Rosh Hashanah is Monday, September 6.  More information will be out about that shortly.  We are planning on offering both in-person and Zoom options.  The important point now is that your High Holiday "tickets" are included with membership.  So, do not delay renewing or joining.

Mitzvah Committee: Here to Help --  The Shir Hadash Mitzvah Committee has reformed and is available to our community.  Please reach out if there is anything going on in your life that you'd like us to know about.  We are interested in both celebrating with you as well as helping in times of need. Thank you to Audrey Cantor, Ila Rothschild, Mady Fern, Chana Sulpar, Robyn Franklin and Bob Roiter. There are a lot of things they'd like to be able to do that will require more volunteers.  If you'd like to be on the committee or even just help from time to time, please contact Audrey Cantor.

Join the Landscaping Committee -- Did you know that Shir Hadash has a Landscaping Committee that needs help?  Our wonderful green space as well as the area immediately around our building is now being maintained by a contractor.  However, we need help to plan, plant and maintain.  Do you have a green thumb or an interest in helping?  Please contact Stuart Aizenberg.

New: "A Little Havdalah" Saturday, July 24, 4:30 p.m.  -- The Family Activities Committee (FAC) invites your family to join our in-person Pre-K Havdalah event, including crafts, songs, and games.  All age groups are welcome to attend this program focused on making Havdalah accessible for our pre-school families. Please bring picnic blankets or chairs as this is an outside event. Also note, Masks are required for the entire event.  Please RSVP here by noon on Thursday, July 22 so we can prepare enough craft materials for everyone.
