CREATIVE WORSHIP AND RITUAL

Friday: Shabbat Dinner Blessings via Zoom, Friday, June 25, 6:15 p.m. -- Join us on Zoom as we light candles, bless our families, sanctify the wine, and bless the challah before Shabbat dinner. Fred Andes will lead a 20-minute ceremony to welcome our Shabbat dinners at home.
Upcoming Weeks:
No Service on Friday, July 2 -- We hope you enjoy celebrating Shabbat with your family and have a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend.

Multigenerational Hybrid Shabbat, Friday, July 9, 7:00 p.m. -- A family-friendly service -- available in-person and also on Zoom -- for all school families, seniors, not-yet seniors, and anyone else who would like to come worship with us as a community. Enjoy a Shabbat service in the outdoor Green Space with fun music, engaging prayer, and a delightful story. Bring your own seats and/or blankets. Tune in on Zoom if you are not attending in person:

Zoom Hosts Needed: We have an urgent need for volunteers to act as Zoom hosts for upcoming services. Our in-person services will continue to have Zoom availability, and some other services will be Zoom-only. Training on how to host can be provided. If you can help, please contact Fred Andes or Jerry Weiss.

In-Person Events Bring People Together -- Last week marked the return of in-person worship inside Shir Hadash, as well as the ever-popular Shabbat bike trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden. We are thrilled to be able to bring our community together again!

Our Chuppah During Recent June Weddings -- We held two joyous weddings in our Sanctuary this month, and here is a peek at our beautiful chuppah. It was created by Fred Khodadad, and the canopy quilt was created by Allison Blakley. This month, the chuppah looked especially inviting, with wisteria flowers donated by Mira & Neil Zweiban.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS AND EVENTS

Membership Renewal Opens July 6 -- Membership renewal for our 2021-2022 year will begin on July 6, 2021. We will again be using a voluntary commitment model for both membership and school tuition. Watch for more details in upcoming newsletters.

Join the Landscaping Committee -- Did you know that Shir Hadash has a Landscaping Committee that needs help? Our wonderful green space as well as the area immediately around our building is now being maintained by a contractor. However, we need help to plan, plant and maintain. Do you have a green thumb or an interest in helping? Please contact Stuart Aizenberg by email or by phone at (847) 840-7895.

Sunday: Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council Fundraiser, June 27 -- On June 27th, NW Suburban Interfaith Council will be hosting its 8th annual “iWalk” event. Like last year, this year's event will be a virtual one due to COVID concerns. In 2020, thanks to donors and volunteers, the event raised over $10,000. Those contributions and 100% of the contributions raised from this year’s event will go to our communities’ four faith-based food pantries. Donations can be made via Facebook by clicking here or by sending a check to the NW Suburban Interfaith Council, PO Box 5301, Buffalo Grove IL 60089.

New: Wine & Cheese Tasting Party, July 10, 7:30 p.m. -- Mehran's annual Wine and Cheese Tasting is back! Shir Hadash's wine and cheese expert Mehran Farahmandpour is hosting an in-person tasting event on Saturday, July 10 at his home in Long Grove. We will have several wines to compare, sparkling wine, whites, and reds. A variety of cheeses and other snacks will be paired with the wines. Admission is $20/person. Click here for details and registration.

New: Krafts & Kibitzing via Zoom, July 14, 7:30 p.m. -- Crafters of all ages and abilities are invited to bring in their current crochet, knit, or other handicraft projects via Zoom. We will share ideas, learn tips and tricks, and shoot the breeze. Breakout rooms will be available for participants ages 17 and younger. Click here to sign up; the Zoom link will be emailed to registrants.
