Friday: Multigenerational Hybrid Shabbat Service, October 1, 7:00 p.m. - at Shir Hadash (indoors) & Zoom: 
Let's celebrate Shabbat with fun music, engaging prayer, and a delightful story! For those joining in-person, please click here to register before Friday at 3pm. Attendance is limited to 40 individuals. For those participating virtually,  .

Social Justice Committee Formation -- We'd like to separate social justice from our very active Social Action Committee.  So, we are looking for folks that would like to participate in a discussion about the formation of a Social Justice Committee.  There could be one program a year or many more.  That will be up to the committee.  Please contact Stuart Aizenberg if you are interested. 


Saturday Night at the Israeli Movies Discussion: "The Matchmaker" Saturday, October 9, 8:00 p.m.-- Join us for our first Israeli movie night of the year! Watch The Matchmaker at your leisure beforehand (you can watch it for free on Hoopla with most library cards, as well as on some other streaming platforms) then tune in for a lively discussion of the film. The Matchmaker mixes comedy with drama as it tells a coming-of-age story unlike any you've ever seen before.  


New: Video Game Club via Zoom, October 17, 1:00 p.m. - The Family Activity Committee is excited to invite our families to play Jackbox games with us. Jackbox is a series of party games and all you need is a computer of mobile device to play. All ages/ families are invited to play with us via Zoom. RSVP here; We will be sending out zoom links upon registration. Donate by October 21; In Person Event October 24 -- Help Those Experiencing Domestic Violence: In-Person and At-Home Options -- Luggage for Freedom returns with in-person and at-home ways to help people experiencing domestic violence. Toiletries, gallon-size ziplock bags, new sheets, new towels, and new blankets can be donated at various dropoff locations. From home, you can make dignity bags and/or no-sew blankets. Items can be dropped off at the synagogue or in Northbrook, Deerfield, or Highland Park by October 21. Additional details can be found here

In person, come to the West Ridge Center in Highland Park to sort items and to pack suitcases and backpacks that will be delivered to domestic violence shelters. Shifts are on October 24, either 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. or 12:30-1:30 p.m.. Volunteers to deliver the suitcases and backpacks to domestic violence shelters also are needed; loading cars will begin at 1:45 p.m.. Due to COVID, you must register in advance for a shift; no walk-ins will be taken. Also, in-person volunteers must be vaccinated.  Click here to register and for additional details. Questions? Book Club Meeting via Zoom, October 21, 7:30 p.m. --  For our October discussion, the Book Club is reading The Song of the Jade Lily by Kirsty Manning, a gripping historical novel that tells the little-known story of Jewish refugees who fled to Shanghai during WWII.  



New: Soap Sack Introductory Meeting via Zoom, October 27, 7:30 p.m. -- Calling all Knitters and Crocheters! Come to an introductory meeting to learn about making soap sacks.  This is part of a global project uniting knitters and crocheters all over the world who make soap sacks and then donate them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, relief efforts and social service agencies.   For  more information and patterns please visit SoapSacks.com. Let's talk about how we can get Shir Hadash members and friends involved in this worthwhile project.  Please join a Zoom Introductory meeting on October 27th at 7:30 p.m. (Watch for Zoom link in upcoming newsletters.)
