Upcoming Weeks:

Urgent Request: Zoom Hosts Needed -- We are in danger of not being able to provide services on Zoom because we are lacking volunteers to host.  The first service potentially impacted is tomorrow evening, July 22.

We have two types of services, Zoom only and Hybrid (in person and Zoom). If you can watch Zoom only services, then you can learn to host them. It's really easy.  Hybrid is a little more complicated and requires that you be in person at the synagogue.  That said, it's not rocket science and we will be happy to teach new volunteers.

We have plans to include a virtual option for High Holiday services but cannot at this point guarantee anything beyond that.
Contact President Stuart Aizenberg If you are potentially interested in helping:  president@shir-hadash.org  or 847-840-7895.

“Fighting City Hall”

Dear Friends,

“You can’t fight City Hall,” goes the old saying. Is that true?  In this week’s Torah portion, an Israelite named Tselofehad died leaving no male heir.  Thus, his five daughters sued for the right to inherit from their father. With no tradition of women inheriting, what was to be done.  The Torah tells us of how Moses consulted with God and a new rule was created allowing women to inherit in this situation.  The daughters won their case! ...

MEMBERSHIP NEWS & EVENTS

Volunteers Needed: Join a Committee! Pretty much every committee and task force could use help.  We are not a congregation that can afford the paid staff needed to do everything.  We have depended on volunteers since our founding and still need to.  Examples: we are starting a Security Committed and need help.  Marketing and Social Action have no chairpersons leading those efforts. We'd love to start a Social Justice committee but need a champion.  Contact President Stuart Aizenberg for more information and/or if you want to help:  president@shir-hadash.org or 847-840-7895.

Membership Renewal Now Open
-- Click here to renew your membership and to enroll your children in religious school. Please contact the office if you have any questions: Admin@shir-hadash.org or 847-498-8218.

Tzedakah for Highland Park Parade Victims -- We are collecting tzedakah to help the Highland Park Parade victims. All donations will be distributed directly to those who were seriously injured and the families of the deceased via
Victims First, a nonprofit that aids victims of mass shootings. 100 percent of donations to the Victims First Highland Park Parade Victims Fund will go to the victims, and your donation is tax deductible. Donate at the synagogue's tzedakah box, online by clicking hereor by mailing a check. Checks should be made out to Victims First, with "Highland Park Parade Victims" in the memo line, and mailed to Victims First, 4195 Chino Hills Parkway #593, Chino Hills, CA 91709. If you have any questions, email Lisa Burton Radzely.

Lahaka High Holidays Rehearsals Start Wednesday, July 27, 7:00 p.m. -- Shir Hadash's adult choir the Lahaka returns in-person for this year's High Holidays, under the direction of Marek Rachelski. We’d love to have you participate. We provide sheet music and learning tracks for all members. The first rehearsal will be on July 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Shir Hadash.  Contact Maggie Cain, magcain@mac.com for more information.

RSVP by July 26:   Poolside BBQ Bash, Saturday, July 30, 6:00 p.m. -- Mark your calendar for a fun evening of dining and schmoozing, hosted by Mehran Farahmandpour. Get to know new Shir Hadash friends over wine, Kosher hot dogs, burgers/veggie burgers, and dessert. Bring your swimsuit if you like! Details and RSVP info on the event page.

Rosh Chodesh Women's Group (In-Person), August 1, 7:00 p.m. -- Get together with old friends and make new ones by participating in the ancient Jewish custom of celebrating the new moon each month. We invite all women to join us in a monthly gathering for discussions, brief prayers, meditations, and socializing. We will meet at Michele Rose's home; RSVP on the event page for the address.

National Night Out, Tuesday August 2, 5:30 p.m. -- Shir Hadash will be participating in this community event presented by the Wheeling Park District and police department.
