Creative Worship and Ritual

Tot Shabbat Service: Friday, August 15, 6:15pm
Our Tot Shabbat service, this Friday, from 6:15 to 7:15pm, is intended for families with children in kindergarten and younger. Rabbi Eitan and Lauren Shook will lead a lively service that includes the Shabbat prayers along with story, song, and dance. It’s an interactive shabbat experience not to be missed! Following the service, we will join for refreshments and a shabbat activity with Lauren Shook. Bring treats to share at the oneg refreshments.

Shabbat Evening Service, Friday, August 15, 7:30 pm
It’s our First Anniversary in the Building!  Let’s celebrate with an evening of looking back on the road to our building and looking forward to the bright future that is in store for our community.  Come ready to share your favorite Shir Hadash stories. In addition to the treats you bring to share at our oneg refreshments, we will enjoy an Ice Cream Buffet from “Here’s the Scoop”

Shabbat Morning Bike Ride and Torah Study, Saturday, August 23, 9:00am
Celebrate a summer Shabbat in the great outdoors! On Saturday morning, August 23, we will meet at 9:00 at the Potawatomi Woods parking lot - on Dundee Road just east of Milwaukee. We will greet the Shabbat morning with prayers. We then will ride nine miles north on the Des Plaines River Trail and stop for breakfast and coffee at a lovely café. There we will study some Torah before returning by noon. Bring money for food and drink. All children must be accompanied by a parent.

High Holidays Registration
High Holidays are coming soon - Selichot, which starts the holiday season, is on Saturday, September 20.  So, it's time to register!  This year, we are doing that on-line, using the ShulCloud system.  E-mail messages have been sent that contain all of the information that you need to register, including a link to ShulCloud.  Different messages are being sent to different groups, depending on whether you are already a Shir Hadash member, and whether you have attended our High Holiday services before.

Members: Please keep in mind, although you do not have pay for tickets to High Holidays services, you do need to complete the online service registration. This allows us to plan for seating, food, and other contingencies. Also, note that members must up-to-date in their annual dues payments in order to be admitted to services.

All questions regarding services, registration, etc. should be directed to cwr@shir-hadash.org. We look forward to see you all on the High Holidays!

Special Offer for New High Holidays Guests
Know someone who’s shul shopping? Tell your friends about Shir Hadash’s special “High Holidays Membership” offer. For individuals who have not attended a Shir Hadash High Holidays service in the last five years (and are not former SH members), we are offering up to 108 guest tickets at the reduced rate of $54. “Out of the Strong, Sweetness”

Dear Friends,

Our sages considered chessed, Hebrew for “mercy,” a divine gift that was a key component of the Jewish soul. In this week’s Torah portion, Moses makes a special statement about the nature of the Jewish personality. For it is written, ‘the Eternal your God shall keep with you the covenant and the mercy (chessed).”

A little known fact is that even as Israelis found themselves under relentless rocket fire from Gaza, they remained faithful to the Jewish principle of chessed by supplying an endless stream of necessities to the civilian population of Gaza….
