can use as groggers (the traditional Purim noise maker) and then donate to the
food pantry. Place donations in the box in the lobby with the mac & cheese
sign.

“The Power of Light”
Dear Friends,
What is the power and meaning of light? This week’s Torah portion
discusses at length the importance of lighting the seven-branched menorah
(candelabrum) in the Mishkan (Tabernacle). The menorah was to be lit “tamid”
which can mean ‘always/continually’ or ‘regularly/every day.’ Either way, the
presence of light in the portable shrine and later in the Jerusalem Temple
signaled that God’s presence was with the Children of Israel. Light signified
that holiness, life, learning, sanctify, purpose, meaning and more was
continually with Israel and all humanity.
The prophet Isaiah refers to Israel as a ‘light unto the nations.’
Thus, like the menorah burning regularly in the holy sanctuary, we have a role
to play amongst the nations of the world. This is not about being better or
chosen. It is about having a unique perspective to share with others. According
to Abba Hillel Silver, “Israel’s sole prerogative lay in carrying on an arduous
and self sacrificing moral and religious leadership.”
Next week, we will celebrate Purim, the festival of deliverance
from the evil plot of Haman to kill the Jews of Persia. There is still evil the
world. There is still oppression. How can you bring light to the world? What
can you do to make the world a better place for everyone?
Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow

Sunday Morning Bagel Bar Help Needed
We all enjoy the delicious bagels at Sunday

for anyone. Please contact Glenn Graff, nflsunday1966@gmail.com, or Tammy Pomper, tammy.g.pomper@gmail.com, to learn more.
