- Jewish History Series - “Exploring the Medieval Era: Who was Glukel of Hamlin?”
Join Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow on an exploration of the Medieval Era of Jewish history. We will sample the philosophy, literature, rituals, beliefs, and key events of the times. To attend in person, please RSVP on the event page.

“Keeping the Fire Lit”
 
Dear Friends,
 
When the Temple in Jerusalem is destroyed, how did our ancestors fulfill the mitzvah of keeping the fire on the sacrificial altar lit? The rabbis taught that when the altar was demolished, our dinner tables at home became the new altar.  Thus, it is at our dinner tables that Judaism lives on through Shabbat meals, Passover seders, and so much more.  But where is the fire? ...

MEMBERSHIP NEWS & EVENTS




Step Up! Volunteers Needed -- Our voluntary commitment model asks each person to donate both financially and of themselves.  We are asking each member to commit to participating on a committee, task force, or project. We cannot afford to bring on professional staff to do all the work. A few of our greatest current needs include: 
*Marketing and Communications - help is needed for our electronic sign, website, Facebook, etc.  
*Social Action - needs a new chairperson
*B'nai Mitzvah Coordinator - to work with our families
*Task Force to honor Rabbi Eitan

Board Nominations Now Open --  As a Board member, you can play a significant role in shaping Shir Hadash’s future.  We are seeking candidates for the following positions:

·         Vice-President for Building Operations (2-year term)
·         Vice-President for Education (2-year term)
·         At-Large Board Members – 4 needed (2-year term)

"Saving Ethiopia's Remaining Jews"  (Zoom), Saturday, March 19, 7:30 p.m. -- Join the Israel Committee for an extraordinary Zoom event addressing the fate of the remaining Ethiopian Jewish community. A panel of leaders from SSEJ (Struggle to Save Ethiopian Jewry) will discuss the “perfect storm” of poverty, famine, pandemic, and civil war ravaging the community. RSVP for the Zoom link


"There's Only One YOU on Earth" (Zoom), Wednesday, March 23, 7:00 p.m. - The North & NW Suburban Chicago NOW chapter welcomes famed Chicago feminist and children's book author Mary Lou Edwards to their chapter meeting on March 23. She will talk about her new book, Only One Me On Our Big Blue Marble. Her book, primarily geared for pre-teen girls, is a plea for self-acceptance -- a message for women of all ages.  More information and registration here.


Passover Food Deliveries - Volunteers are needed to deliver Passover care packages to those in need.  The delivery will be on Sunday, April 10 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.  Maot Chitim provides the packages.  We will meet to deliver the packages at an apartment complex in Wheeling.  Please contact Mark Lenhart if you would like to help – 847-502-2185 / mclenhart@gmail.com.
