Shir Hadash News -- March 3, 2022

UPDATE to COVID Policy:
Shir Hadash is now requiring proof of vaccination for all eligible persons (five-years-old and older) entering the building.¹   This policy includes a primary COVID vaccination series (two injections of Moderna or Pfizer or one injection of J&J) plus a booster within five months of receiving the second shot (of Moderna or Pfizer) or within two months of the single shot (of J&J).²

To gain entry into the building, all eligible persons must show an authorized person (e.g. administration/staff member, Event Host, etc.) a completed vaccination card any time entry to the building is requested.³

This new policy will apply equally to anyone entering the building regardless of whether they are guests, invitees, or members.  There will be no exceptions.
All entrants to the building agree to contact the Shir Hadash administrative office if they test positive for COVID not more than forty-eight hours after being inside the building.

Footnotes:
1. Those children twelve and under attending Religious School on Sundays are exempted from this requirement.
2. Per CDC Vaccination Guidelines updated January 16, 2022.
3. Physical cards are acceptable, as is digital proof (AllVax, Apple Wallet, IDPH, photo, etc).

Solidarity with Ukraine --
Shir Hadash shares the world's horror and concern about what is occurring in Ukraine. We support the statements and the relief efforts of  Reconstructing Judaism  and  Jewish United Fund. If you would like to make a donation that will provide humanitarian assistance to individuals in Ukraine or those who have fled to neighboring countries, we recommend donating to World Union for Progressive Judaism's  Ukraine Crisis Fund  or Jewish United Fund's Ukraine Relief Fund

Video Message from Rabbi Eitan Weiner-Kaplow -- As announced previously, Rabbi Eitan plans to retire from his current role at Shir Hadash in June 2023. He shares his plans for the future in this video message to our community.

Volunteers Needed -- Our voluntary commitment model asks each person to donate both financially and of themselves.  We are asking each member to commit to participating on a committee, task force, or project. We cannot afford to bring on professional staff to do all the work. A few of our greatest current needs include:
*Marketing and Communications - help is needed for our electronic sign, website, Facebook, etc.
*Social Action - needs a new chairperson
*B'nai Mitzvah Coordinator - to work with our families
*Task Force to honor Rabbi Eitan
If you want more information and have interest in helping in any of these areas, contact Stuart Aizenberg -  President@shir-hadash.org  / 847-840-7895

Shir Hadash Donations Provide Meals to Underserved -- Shir Hadash was again able to feed needy individuals as part of the Inner Faith Soup Kitchen in Evanston in February.  In normal times, Shir Hadash members would prepare and serve homemade meals to guests in the dining room at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Evanston.  But thanks to your generous donations, we were able to purchase 65 prepared meat and vegetarian meals that could easily be distributed with limited contact. Shir Hadash will again be serving meals on November 13.  For more details, please contact Mark Lenhart .
